Sandoval County, New Mexico Inmate Search

An inmate search in Sandoval County is a service that allows members of the public to verify if someone is currently in law enforcement custody. An inmate in law enforcement custody is usually housed in the Sandoval County Detention Center. Contrary to the norm in several counties in some states, the Sandoval County Detention Center is not run by the Sheriff’s Office. It is a department of the Sandoval County Government and is managed by a Warden, who reports to the County Manager.

An inmate search provides researchers with information about an inmate’s stay in jail, such as their housing unit, arrest details, booking date, criminal charges, and bond information.

There are no municipal, state, or federal correctional facilities in Sandoval County, so individuals serving sentences lasting more than a year are most likely not present in the Detention Center. To locate such inmates, inquirers may contact the New Mexico Corrections Department.

How to Find an Inmate in Sandoval County Jail

Members of the public can search for an individual in the Sandoval County Detention Center using the county’s Inmate Lookup tool. The inmate tool provides access to the details of inmates incarcerated in the county. Researchers may search, view, and download the inmate list, which is updated daily. Individuals may also visit or call the Detention Center at (505) 867-5339 to conduct a search.

Additionally, individuals may submit an Inspection of Public Records Act (IRA) Request for detailed information that may not be available online or disclosed over the phone. If an inmate has been convicted and moved to a state facility, their records will not be accessible at the county level.

How to Send Money to an Inmate in the Sandoval County Detention Center

Individuals can send money to an inmate in the Sandoval County Detention Center by visiting the facility and using the automated kiosk in the lobby. The kiosk accepts cash, credit cards, and debit cards. Alternatively, individuals may send a money order by mail to the detention center’s address. Senders must write the inmate’s name on the envelope, or it may be returned.

Money sent to an inmate is automatically deposited into their commissary account. This account helps them to purchase certain items, such as hygiene kits and snacks, while in jail. An inmate’s family and friends can also purchase these packages through a private vendor, so the inmate does not have to take money directly from their account.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

When searching for an inmate in Sandoval County, all roads lead to the Sandoval County Detention Center. The detention center is the only facility where individuals are held after being arrested or when serving a short-term sentence.

Researchers can search for an inmate in the detention center online using the Inmate Lookup tool. The tool allows searches using the inmate’s name. For offline access, individuals may call or visit the detention center and provide details about the individual’s arrest.

Sandoval County Visitation Rules and Schedules

Visitation at the Sandoval County Detention Center is handled almost entirely through a video visitation system. The facility stopped the traditional in-person face-to-face visits for the general public and switched to a video-based system. Individuals can visit an inmate through a mobile device, computer, or the video console at the detention center. This system was introduced to save operational costs, reduce security issues, and help distant family and friends of an inmate visit them.

Remote Video Visitation

Remote video visitation can be achieved on a mobile device or computer at any location in the country and generally has no limits on the number of people who may be part of a visitation session, except that the Warden directs otherwise. Each visitation session costs $9.99 and lasts 30 minutes.

On-Site Console Visitation

The Sandoval County Detention Center is equipped with a console that allows individuals to visit their loved ones in jail, while physically at the jail. Unlike remote video visitation, there is a limited number of people who may visit at any given time through this method. Only one adult and one minor are allowed to use the console at a time. The service is free; however, an inmate is limited to two visits per week.

For both visitation methods, individuals will have to schedule a visit through a third-party vendor at least 24 hours in advance. Potential visitors will need to create an account before proceeding with scheduling.

Visitors are required to dress and behave appropriately while visiting. Clothing should be conservative; see-through wear, tank tops, or clothes with offensive prints are prohibited. All visits are recorded to ensure compliance, and individuals who default may have their visitation privileges revoked.

Individuals who were previously incarcerated in the Sandoval County Detention Center cannot visit an inmate until 60 days after their release.

Mailing and Commissary Information

In addition to remote and on-site video visitation, family and friends can keep in contact with an inmate by sending them letters by mail. Letters for an inmate must be sent through U.S Postal mail and be addressed to the Sandoval County Detention Center with the inmate’s full name written on the envelope.

Example:

John Doe

1100 Montoya Road

Bernalillo, NM 87004

Without the inmate’s name written on the back of the envelope, it will be impossible to determine to whom the mail is directed and may result in the letter being returned. All letters sent to the Sandoval County Detention Center for an inmate are inspected before they are delivered to the inmate. This inspection is to ensure that the mail does not contain contraband. Contraband includes packages, padded envelopes, greeting cards with electronics/glitter, or lipstick/perfume.

Money orders meant for an inmate’s commissary account also follow the same procedure. Senders must include the inmate’s name on the money order and also on the back of the envelope. Individuals should be careful not to send personal checks or cash by mail, as these are rejected.
